In Queensland, a Safety Certificate is needed when you transfer ownership of a vehicle, when you are registering a vehicle from another state or if the registration has lapsed and you need to re-register a car, motorcycle, trailer or other type of vehicles up to 4,500kg gross vehicle mass.

Safety Certificates are required by Queensland law for anyone selling a vehicle in the state and must be provided to the buyer at the time of sale.
